What is the Catalyst program at Blue in Green?

 Challenging & Motivating

Supportive & Individualized

There is a strong culture for learning in the Catalyst environment!  Students develop a deep understanding of how music works and meet specific learning goals in nearly half the time it takes the average private lesson student!  By learning in the group, students are able to work as a team while engaging in authentic music-playing experiences, practice leadership skills, and gain deeper understanding and confidence through observing peers.

Having said that, we're also former classroom teachers who are used to 30+ kids at a time; we know it can be easy for a student to slip under the radar and get left behind in a group.  We're constantly monitoring and assessing each student individually to see who might need a little extra support. Catalyst is capped at 9 students maximum to provide flexibility based on students' needs, and in each class, we utilize a combination of full group, small group, and one-to-one instruction to ensure each child is getting what they need in order to be successful.

The most structured and comprehensive piano program that exists for kids

CONSISTENCY & ROUTINES

Setting up a learning environment that students feel comfortable and confident in is a top priority from day one!  By focusing on routines and expectations early on, our class structure quickly becomes predictable to students, allowing them to walk in confident and ready to learn each and every week.

Additionally, we've planned and structured our Catalyst program to ensure that learning, growth, and momentum are not compromised if your child needs to miss a class.  In this case, you will be emailed a class recap and resource page detailing all new information from the days' class, along with digital resources for your child to put the new material into practice and return the following week ready to go!

(Alternate Level 1 classes happening on different days will also be available for your child to come to as a make-up anytime you know about their absence in advance).

PARENT RESOURCES

We believe a school isn't fully supporting students if they're not also supporting the parents.

You are an important part of your child's early music education, and we don't take that for granted!  We've got you covered with everything you need to support your child's piano learning at home with ease.

Each class, we add recap pages and materials to your child's music binder, so you will know exactly what they've learned each class.  On top of that, students receive corresponding digital practice assignments each week that are custom-made here at Blue in Green, and only available to students in our program.

We've created each week's digital assignments to be an exact mirror of what you'll see on your child's binder page for the week.

This keeps at-home practice relevant and purposeful for students, while removing the guess-work for parents!

MODERN, AGE-APPROPRIATE INSTRUCTIONAL METHOD

We often hear concerns from parents wanting their child to start piano, but afraid that they won't be able to "sit through" the classes.

We get the concern; lots of group piano classes treat children like they're in a college lecture hall!

Kids don't learn that way, and teachers lose control really quickly that way...

The Catalyst Level 1 class is for 5-8 year olds, and we've been very mindful of that when creating the program.  With the variety of activities, movement, and hands-on resources students are engaging with each class, there's not a whole lot of "sitting through" going on here anyway! ;)
